Full course description
When the Common Core Standards were introduced in 2010, it was predicted that within a decade, 65 percent of all jobs, and 92 percent of traditional STEM jobs, would require postsecondary education and training. Thus, the standards set the end goal of K-12 schooling to be a clearly defined college and career readiness. This course takes a deep dive into seven descriptors that offer a portrait of students who are college- and career-ready in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language.
Topics covered include:
- A brief history of the CCS and definition of college and career readiness
- Seven literacy-based descriptors that form a portrait of a college- and career-ready graduate
- Exploration of how the seven descriptors apply in your context as an educator
